Richmondshire’s unsung heroes were recognised last
week in a special awards ceremony.

Five awards were made in the district
council’s fourth ‘Citizenship Awards’ on March 23.
Young Person of the Year was 17 year old Scott
Wallace for his work to resurrect Scorton village football
club. He helped secure grants and fundraised – the club now
has over 40 members
Volunteer of the Year went to Margaret Bagnall
who has been a volunteer at AskriggPrimary Schooltwice a week for
the last 19 years
Community Initiative of the Year was the
Hudswell Community Pub Ltd. The group bought and reopened the
village pub, the George and Dragon and now provide a number of
services including a village shop in the pub and free internet
access
Entrepreneur of the Year went to Julian
Martin, the co founder of ICE Renewables from Little Holtby who
supply wind, anaerobic digestion and solar photovoltaic products,
who has overseen the businesses growth over the past four
years. It now has 20 employees and a turnover of
£1million
Most Innovative Business / Enterprise of the
Year went to Nick and Hazel Oliver who along with members of the
Pavilion Development Group and village residents have been
instrumental in creating a brand new community sports pavilion in
Carperby by raising more than £2700,000 through grants, fundraising
and donations
The event was held at WensleydaleSchooland
hosted by James Wilson from Fresh Radio.
