Youngsters from Colburn were given time away from the
school desks this week – to tidy up their community.
Twenty five children from Colburn Community
Primary School collected rubbish from around the town – including
the Piper Hill play area.
The mass litter pick was organised by Colburn
Neighbourhood Working Project and Hambleton and Richmondshire’s
waste and street scene service. Council officers were
joined by local community police officer, Katie Wray, Colburn
Community Development Worker, Andrea Willis, local volunteers and
schoolteachers.
And local store, Tescos, donated fruit and
juice for the children who took part.
“The clean up is part of the project group’s
priority to help keep the environment of Colburn town clean,” said
Andrea.
“All the children got involved in the project
– they spent over an hour collecting bags of rubbish and we hope
their work set a good example to the people who carelessly throw
their rubbish away rather than disposing of it in bins.”
