Childminders from Richmond and
Catterick went back to school last month - for lessons on road
safety.

As part of Child Safety week the 10
childminders and 25 youngsters who meet every Thursday at the
Surestart Centre in Colburn took time out with community safety
officers.
The children were able to act out real road
safety issues by dressing up and heard from local Police Community
Support Officers, Diane Smith and Katie Wray.
The event - organised by the Hambleton and
Richmondshire Community Safety Partnership – followed the Child
Safety Week theme, ‘Take a second look for safety’. It warned
that taking a second look for safety takes only seconds, but will
give peace of mind that will last and last.
“Both the childminders and their charges
really enjoyed the lesson,” said Sarah Butler, home based
childminder and owner of Midget Gems Childcare.
“Children love interacting with other children
and it is the best way for them to learn. If they take heed
of road safety messages when they are very young we hope they will
stay with them through life.”
