Richmondshire’s museums are backing a
campaign urging people to give a few hours of their time each week
to local projects.
June 1 kicks off national ‘Volunteering Week’
when the army of volunteers supporting causes across the UK will be
celebrated.
And for Richmondshire residents there a
variety of opportunities on the doorstep.
The Georgian Theatre Royal in Richmond is
looking for new volunteers for a host of areas - front of house,
technical, box office, shop, guiding and bar. For further
information, contact the theatre on 01748 823710.
At the Dales Countryside Museum in Hawes
volunteers are needed to help with gardening, scanning paper items,
research, family history enquiries and general collection care.
Help is also needed with the textiles collection, digital
photography, events, demonstrations, talks, creation and
maintenance of displays. Contact the museum on 01969 666210
Richmondshire Museum is also looking for
volunteers in many areas - welcoming visitors, administration,
helping with school parties, audio interviews and possibly
conservation work. Contact the museum on 01748 825611
The local Community Sports Network, Active
Richmondshire, is looking for a new Chairperson. The network
recognises leaders in sport for each community and is used to
enhance communication between partners looking to provide an active
healthy lifestyle as well as catering for the specific needs of the
community. The group meets once a quarter to review progress
against the newly established action plan with support provided by
Richmondshire District Council. Contact Jo-Anne Simpson on
01748 827182 for more information
And for anyone interested in the arts there
are opportunities to get involved in the re-established Voluntary
Arts Group for Richmondshire. This network of people who are
involved with voluntary and amateur arts includes singing, drama,
dance, crafts, painting groups, performing arts societies and
choirs. Contact Jo-Anne Simpson on 01748 827182 for more
information.
“National Volunteering Week brings with it an
exciting range of opportunities for volunteering across the
district,” said Richmondshire District Council Culture and
Well-being Delivery Manager, Jo-Anne Simpson. “There are many
opportunities for people of all ages to share their skills and
experience with others which we hope will be taken up.”
