Businesses across Hambleton and Richmondshire are
being given the chance to compete for work across the Defence
Estate - including Catterick Garrison.
The Ministry of Defence is looking to create a framework of
contractors to deliver capital projects in the North East, North
West, Yorkshire and the Humber.
But businesses must be able to meet the MODs need to deliver
sustainable developments with economic, social and environmental
benefits as well as maintaining its commitment to the stewardship
of wildlife, heritage and community assets.
Richmondshire District Council's Deputy Leader, Councillor Melva
Steckles has welcomed the move.
"This is a great opportunity for local businesses to benefit in
these difficult economic times," she said.
"The MOD is a major employer - and an important asset - in our
district, so it's great that local businesses have a chance to bid
for work on the garrison site."
And Hambleton District Council Leader, Councillor Neville
Huxtable added: "This is good news for the many businesses in our
districts that are at present bidding for limited work - we hope
that a good number of them will express an interest before the cut
off date at the end of this month."
Contracts will include construction work for military buildings
and installations; engineering work; pipelines; power lines;
communications and architectural and building services.
Businesses have until February 28 to place 'expressions of
interest' with the ministry. They will then be asked to complete a
pre qualification questionnaire and attend an industry day.
