Richmondshire Leisure Trust is
celebrating its most successful summer holiday activity programme
yet – which saw over 400 youngsters take part.

As London 2012 beckons the trust offered them
the chance to try a range of sport, dance and cultural activities
in Richmond, Catterick, Colburn, and the Dales.
And less mainstream sports like kayaking,
archery and dance proved increasingly popular.
The summer activity programme provided:
- BURST Activity Camps at Richmond, Catterick
Garrison, Colburn, and Askrigg.
- Cricket and Football in the Community
programmes backed by ECB and FA qualified coaches.
- Swimming and kayaking courses at Richmond
Swimming Pool.
- ‘Glee’ dance week at Liberty Health Club
- Gymnastics and dance workshops
- Basketball, handball, archery, fencing,
golf, triathlon and modern pentathlon sessions
- Horseriding taster sessions at Arklemoor
Riding Centre
- Mountain biking at the Dales Cycling
Centre
- Two outdoor adventure weeks in partnership
with Adrenalin
“The range of activities available has ensured
that programmes can reach the widest possible audience, and this
diversity will continue to be the cornerstone of future school
holiday programmes,” said Matt Prosser, Sports Development
Co-ordinator.
“This was expanded through partnership work
with the local children centres, army welfare service, extended
schools service and local museums so that a single guide to the
summer was created. It provided a one stop shop for parents
to get a full overview of everything available to them during the
holidays.”
The BURST School Holiday Activity Programme
offers children and young people from five to 18 the opportunity to
participate in a wide range of activities over the school
holidays. It runs in every school holiday throughout the year
and each programme has a range of taster sessions as well as the
Burst Camps. The BURST Holiday programme returns in October.
