An innovative project to create a
community bakery in the market town of Bedale comes under the
spotlight once more this month.
The creation of ‘Bread Actually’ has already
featured on national television – but on September 15 local people
will be able to learn more about the scheme based at Bedale
Station.
The Annual General Meeting of the Bedale and
Villages Community Forum – the group’s ninth AGM – will hear from
members of the group. It began as a group of friends baking
‘real’ bread together as a social and therapeutic activity and
moved on to opening a bakery, hosting regular baking sessions,
selling at local markets and promoting the use of locally sourced
products.
The AGM will also hear about the ‘Beckside
Project’ which aims to replace the existing scout and guide
headquarters in beadle with the new environmentally friendly
community building.
Established in 2001, the Forum is one of ten
community partnerships across Hambleton and Richmondshire which
seek to identify and respond to local needs and aspirations in
order to improve economic, social and environmental
well-being.
The September meeting gives local people a
chance to find out what has been have achieved over the last twelve
months and to help identify future priorities for the group.
The meeting takes place from 7.30pm at Bedale
Hall.
Light refreshments will be provided. To
confirm attendance or to request further information contact Peter
Cole, Hambleton District Council’s Partnerships Officer on 01609
