Richmondshire residents are being urged to ensure they have the right to vote in next year’s elections.
Canvass forms are currently being posted to all 22,000 households – they contain details of everyone currently included on the electoral register for each address. Residents are simply asked to add anyone missing and delete anyone no longer living there.
And following the success of the 2009 canvass, email, text and telephone replies are again being taken – 3000 people used electronic means last year. As well as giving electors greater options this system also reduces the Electoral Registration postal costs.
If there are no changes to details information can be returned electronically (internet, freephone or text) - security codes are provided on the form to access the three different methods. The form does not need to be returned by post when using one of these methods.
However if other changes are needed, if residents need to be added or removed or a resident does not wish to use the other methods, the form can be returned by post in the envelope provided or delivered to any Community Office.
Canvass forms must be returned to Richmondshire as soon as possible to avoid a reminder or personal visit to the home.
District and Parish Council elections are scheduled to take place on 5 May 2011 together with possible referendums.
Anyone needing help completing the form – or who doesn’t receive a canvass form by September 14 - should contact the helpline on 01748 827096 or electoral@richmondshire.gov.uk.
