A series of measures to increase visitor numbers at
Hambleton's premier tourist attraction have been put in
place.
Local people can now visit on 'two for one' tickets, promotional
deals have been set up with local newspapers and Grand Central
Railway; and new events are in the pipeline.
In the last six months The World of James Herriot in Thirsk has
seen a 35% decline in visitors - so far just over 8500 have been
through the Kirkgate doors compared to 13,000 in 2010.
"We have got a series of exciting new measures all designed to
enable the people of Hambleton and Richmondshire - the very people
that have supported us since we opened - to visit us once more,"
said Centre Manager, Phil Bustard.
"But we also think a lot of people do not go to places on their
doorsteps and we hope this 2 for 1 promotion will encourage them to
come along and see what we have on offer."
The centre - a tribute to vet come author Alf Wight - houses the
largest veterinary collection in the UK as well as recreated 40s
style rooms and tributes to the BBC TV series, All Creatures Great
and Small.
And from next week, Alf Wight's son Jim, will be making regular
appearances at the centre to sign the book he wrote about his
father, 'The Real James Herriot'. He will be in the centre from
11am to 12.30pm on August 16, 18 and 30; and September 1, 6, 8, 13
and 15.
- Local people simply need to show proof of address to take
advantage of the 2 for 1 offer.
- Offers are also being included in a raft of local newspapers
across Yorkshire and the North East and ticket holders from Grand
Central Railway train can also gain admission on a 2 for 1
basis
