£1000 grants to install solar hot water heating
systems
Richmondshire District Council, in association
with the Energy Partnership and your local Energy Saving Trust, are
offering local residents a renewable energy grant of up to £1,000.
Saving up to a third of the cost of new system, which typically
costs between £3,000 and £5,000 to install.
Why Solar?
Solar water heating is a free and clean form
of energy which is cheaper to run than gas and kinder to the
environment. By installing solar water heating, you could
save a minimum of £50 per year on your energy bill
and cut emissions of CO2 by around 260kg a year.
How does it work?
Solar panels are fitted to your roof where
they soak up and retain heat from the sun’s rays. The heat is then
transferred to an insulated hot water tank which it warms up
throughout the day for later use. A simple plumbing system connects
the solar collector and cylinder to your water supply. Solar water
heating works alongside your existing heating system and can
provide up to a third of your home’s hot water needs and
practically all hot water during the summer months.
How much maintenance do they
require?
Once solar panels are installed they require
little or no maintenance. We suggest an annual check by the
householder and a professional check every 3-5yrs. Also, most solar
hot water systems come with a 10-year warranty for extra peace of
mind.
