LOCAL residents will get the chance to
have their say on the future of Yorke Square as a community
resource, Richmondshire District Council has pledged.
The Council will engage with residents and give them the
opportunity to get involved from the very beginning. As part of
this, a community event will be held to identify a list of possible
options for the future use of the Yorke Square car park in
Richmond.
Members of the Council's Resources Committee last month voted to
formally withdraw a planning application for the site – and instead
examine a range of options for the car park's future. Members of
the Resources Committee also thanked the Save Our Shire campaign
group for engaging positively in the democratic process.
Councillor Melva Steckles, Leader of Richmondshire District
Council, said: "The key message is that public consultation will be
at the heart of Yorke Square's future. We know that local residents
have some wonderful ideas about what should happen, and we see this
as a great chance to unlock all that local knowledge and
enthusiasm."
Councillors Linda Curran and Stuart Parsons, ward members for
Richmond West, said: "At last, there is a fantastic opportunity for
the whole community to come together and have a say in the future
of Yorke Square. Details of the community engagement will be
published shortly, and we would encourage as many residents as
possible to take part in what should be a really positive
process."
A report is due to be brought back to members once the community
engagement process has been completed.
