Waste recycling helps Council

CONFIDENTIAL waste disposal has given Richmondshire District Council another opportunity to do its bit for the environment.

The Council's confidential waste is taken away and securely shredded by document destruction company Shred-it. But after that, the company turns the destroyed documents into recycled paper products.

In 2007, more than 150 secure containers of confidential documents from Richmondshire District Council were shredded – which, through recycling, saved the equivalent of 79 trees.

Bill Glover, Richmondshire District Council's Member Champion for Procurement and Sustainability, said: "Confidential document destruction is an essential practice for a modern organisation – but it's nice to know that along the way we're doing our bit to help the environment too."
