No local election in May 2008 – registration call from Richmondshire District Council

RICHMONDSHIRE residents are being urged to register to vote, although there are no scheduled local elections being held in Richmondshire on Thursday, May 1, 2008. The County Council and European Parliamentary elections will take place in 2009.

Electoral Services Officer Sandra Hullah said: "It's important to register, and not just in case there's an election. The voters' list is used by credit agencies to verify residency – failure to appear on the register may therefore affect any credit applications you may make. Some people think that because they are registered to pay council tax it means they are also registered to vote, but this simply isn't the case."
