BUSINESSES were urged to "prepare for
the worst" at a special event organised by Richmondshire District
Council.
Less than a fortnight after torrential downpours brought
flooding to parts of the district, the aim of the pioneering
"business breakfast" was to emphasise the importance of planning
for disasters such as fires, floods and storms.
The Council joined forces with Leyburn and Mid-Wensleydale
Business Association to arrange the event, the second in a series
of breakfast meetings designed to support Richmondshire's
businesses.
Thursday's early-morning meeting, at the Middleham Key Centre in
Middleham, brought business owners together to meet each other and
share information and expertise.
Alan Dixon, from Peters the Bakers, gave a presentation on how
businesses can plan effectively to recover from disasters, and
officers from Richmondshire District Council's Economic Development
and Tourism Service were on hand to discuss the wider support
available to businesses in the district.
Melva Steckles, Leader of Richmondshire District Council, said:
"As a Council we are committed to working in partnership with local
businesses to make sure Richmondshire's economy continues to
thrive.
"These 'business breakfasts' are a great example of the kind of
initiatives we are running to make that happen."
Simon Fletcher, Assistant Director (Customer) at Richmondshire
District Council, said: "The Middleham event was well-attended, and
very successful in bringing local businesses together.
"It also gave Council officers the chance to highlight some of
the grants and support services available to businesses in
Richmondshire."
Future business breakfasts will be
held in Hawes on March 27 and Reeth on April 1.
