Residents are being urged to look out for the registration form
arriving from Richmondshire District Council in the near
future.
The forms will be distributed by the end of August. It is
important that people complete and return the form as quickly as
possible.
Remember to include the names of all those living in your
household who will be eligible to vote - their right to vote is
important too.
- If you do not return this form, your
name may be left out of the new version of the voters' list, even
though it may already be included in the current one. You have to
register EACH year.
- If you do not register: -
You will forfeit your right to vote at the County Council and
European Parliament Elections or any other Elections during the
year.
- If you do not register: - The voters'
list is used by credit agencies to verify residency – failure to
appear on the register may therefore affect any credit applications
you may make.
- Even if you are registered for
Council Tax purposes, you still cannot vote if you are not on the
voters' list.
"The new Electoral Register will run from December 1 to November
30 next year," said Electoral Services Officer, Sandra Hullah. "If
your name is not on the register, you will not be able to vote in
any elections taking place next year. In addition to
affecting your voting rights, not having your name on the latest
Register can also impact on credit and banking applications."
When completing the form it is important to include all young
people in the house who will be 18 before November 30.
