Feel Safe - Be
Safe
The Richmondshire Community Safety Partnership, together with
the St Johns Centre, has arranged some fun safety sessions for the
centre's regular attenders.
The sessions will be held over three afternoons and cover a
range of `safety` issues, including `Beat the Bogey Man` - a
theatre group performing to show how to deal with bogus callers
looking at home and personal security.
"We are hoping these events will primarily be fun, but will also
provide some important safety tips for our older residents",
explains Liz Smith, Chair of the RCSP, "If they are a success, we
will look to roll the programme out across
Richmondshire."
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service will attend the event to
explain the use of smoke alarms, and how to stay safe in the event
of a fire. Representatives of Richmondshire District Youth
Council will be holding a `juke box` quiz with prizes, and Age
concern will provide a session on keeping healthy with gentle
exercises.
Cllr Linda Curran, who works with the centre says "These
sessions are meant as fun but with a strong safety message. It has
been a great opportunity to bring together a range of partners and
we hope those attending will really enjoy the days."
At each of the sessions, staff from 'Vale and Dale' will provide
free advice on home security and officers from the Community Safety
Partnership will be present to give messages on Anti- social
behaviour and Domestic Abuse.
The sessions will be held:
1pm to 3pm on Wednesday 3rd October 2007
1pm to 3pm on Wednesday 24th October 2007 and
1pm to 3pm on Wednesday 21st November 2007.
