About 2,500 households in Richmondshire could miss out on the
chance to vote next year, residents are being warned.
As part of Richmondshire District Council's annual canvass of
electors, more than 22,000 forms have been distributed. So far,
about two thirds of those have been completed and returned.
But that still means thousands of households have not returned a
form – and residents are urged to do so as soon as possible.
"The new Electoral Register will run from December 1 to November
30 next year," says Electoral Services Officer, Sandra Hullah. "If
your name is not on the register, you will not be able to vote in
any elections taking place next year. In addition to affecting your
voting rights, not having your name on the latest Register can also
impact on credit and banking applications."
When completing the form it is important to include all young
people in the house who will be 18 before November 30, 2007.
The final deadline for receipt of forms is Friday, November
16.
