It was announced last week that the Bridge the Gap project, in
Brompton on Swale, was one of 79 schemes to share in a £50 million
grant after a national public vote.
Bridge the Gap brought together Brompton on Swale Parish
Council, Richmondshire District Council, North Yorkshire County
Council, the Richmond Swale Valley Community Initiative, Yorkshire
Water and the Ministry of Defence – as well as countless other
residents, businesses and voluntary groups.
Helen Harper, sustainable development policy officer at
Richmondshire District Council, said: "We're still celebrating the
news that our bid was successful, and we'd like to thank again
everyone in Richmondshire who got behind our campaign.
"But the hard work starts now, and the next step is for the
Royal Engineers to move in and actually begin construction
work."
Melva Steckles, Leader of Richmondshire District Council, said:
"Bridge the Gap just goes to show what happens when a whole
community gets involved in a project.
"So many different people and organisations joined forces for
this bid, and their success will help to open up the countryside
for Richmondshire residents and visitors."
