A pack designed to welcome new people to the
United Kingdom has been translated into Nepalese.
The online resource which contains information
about local services has been expanded to take in more of the
diverse communities that are now based in North Yorkshire.
Funded by the Richmondshire Strategic
Partnership and North Yorkshire County Council the ‘welcome pack’
was first launched in Richmond this spring.
The Strategic Partnership held a ‘Celebration
of Many Cultures’ event at Richmond Station for families and people
of all ages. Dales folk music sat side by side with Bulgarian
singing and Indian dancing, as well as music by local
schoolchildren. There was also a screening of the independent
film ‘Grow Your Own’, food tasting, arts and crafts demonstrations
and quizzes.
“The day was a great success promoting the
positive diversity within the community,” said Chair of the
Partnership, Judith Bromfield
“Ensuring the welcome pack evolves to meet the
needs of the communities it is intended for is an important part of
the partnership’s work.”
