Richmondshire householders are being urged to
ensure they don’t lose the right to vote.
Electoral registration forms are being sent to
every home in the district this month – they must be completed and
returned to the council as quickly as possible.
And this year for the first time electors with
no changes to their details can confirm their return electronically
either by the internet, phone or text – how to do this is included
with the mailed out form.
“Not only does this give our electors greater
options it will also reduce the Electoral Registration postal
costs,” said Tony Clark, Electoral Registration Officer
“Security codes are provided on the form to
access the three different methods of contacting us. And if
electors use one of these alternative methods they do not to return
the form by post.”
And he said that it was important to remember
to include the names of all those living in the household who will
be eligible to vote as their right to vote is important too -
including all young people in the house who will be 18 before 30
November 2009.
- If you do not return this form, your name may
be left out of the new version of the voters’ list, even though it
may already be included in the current one. You have to
register each year
- If you do not register you will forfeit your
right to vote at any election during the year
- The voters’ list is used by credit agencies
to verify residency – failure to appear on the register may
therefore affect any credit applications you may make
- Even if you are registered for council tax
purposes, you still cannot vote if you are not on the voters’
list.
