Staff and councillors from Richmondshire District Council have offered to put the “extra” day this leap year to good use.
More than 40 people from the local authority have volunteered to swap their day jobs for some work in the community, to “give back” the day gained on February 29, 2008.
Richmondshire residents and organisations are now being asked to nominate community projects that could benefit from a bit of “muscle” – anything from clearing an overgrown garden to tidying up a street.
Nominations close on July 18, when a panel of staff and councillors will pick the project or projects they wish to tackle. Ideally, the work should take place sometime in September.
