COMMUNITY HOUSE BUILDING CONFERENCE FOR RICHMONDSHIRE

Landowners, self-builders, small builders or suppliers and community groups are being invited to take part in a house building conference next month.

Richmondshire District Council is hosting its first ‘Self Build and Community Led Housing’ conference where delegates will get the chance to hear from a diverse range of speakers - covering all the services required to build a home.

They will be able to ask for guidance on planning issues related to house building within Richmondshire and the Yorkshire Dales National Park and visit market stalls promoting lending opportunities and other building services.

Also in attendance will be representatives from Community First Yorkshire and the Hudswell Community Charity – which is home to the first community led housing scheme in the county. Communities can find out how they did it and see if it could work for them.

The conference takes place on Friday 21 July in The Garden Room at Tennants in Leyburn.   Anyone wishing to attend - or have a market stall - should contact Rural Housing Enabler, Amanda Madden on 01748 901117 or This email address is being protected from spambots. FREE PARKING AT WHITE SHOPS TO BE EXTENDED

The council has been advised that the road junction improvements will not be completed until November.

Colin Dales, Corporate Director, explained: “We introduced free parking at our Hildyard Row car park in response to concerns of the local community and are pleased to confirm that free parking will continue until the road works are completed.”

REDUCTION IN COUNCILLORS APPROVED

Proposed changes to the number of councillors serving Richmondshire District Council have been sanctioned – as part of an ongoing drive to improve efficiency within the authority.

Members of Full Council on Tuesday (April 25) gave their approval to plans to reduce the member count by ten – to 24 – from 2019.

They were told the authority is now ‘oversized’ and could easily operate and function with a 29% reduction in members – but still provide the right representation for the district’s residents.
