40 YEARS VOLUNTARY SERVICE MARKED

Two volunteers have been rewarded for chalking up more than 40 years combined service to the local citizens advice bureau.

Rosalind Earl and Ted Darwin were presented with community certificates at the annual general meeting of Citizens Advice Hambleton, Richmondshire & Selby District (CAHRS) last week.

Rosalind is a former Director and 'hands on' Volunteer Trustee Board Member for over 17 years - vital to the strategic direction of CAHRS helping oversee the successful merger of Richmondshire Citizens Advice with Hambleton and Selby.   She was also key in assisting sources of funding and much of the important 'behind the scenes work that many are unaware of’.

Ted has been a volunteer adviser for over 20 years making him the longest serving member of  Citizens Advice Richmondshire and still sets up the annual volunteers walks and is looked up to as a model adviser by his former colleagues.

The AGM welcomed Mayor Stuart Parsons, volunteers, staff and members of the public from all over North Yorkshire. Mark Hopley from Community First Yorkshire was guest speaker with Chairman of North Yorkshire County Council, Councillor Helen Swiers presenting the long service awards.

Carol Shreeve CEO of CAHRS said: “A huge thank you to all our volunteers and staff who dealt with a record 10,000 issues from members of the public in the last year.”

NYCC Cllr Carl Les Chair of the Trustee Board of CAHRS also revealed that Hambleton, Richmondshire and Selby and District are in the final stages of merging with their North Yorkshire counterparts Ryedale Citizens Advice - more details of this will be released this week.
