CLEANER VILLAGE FOLLOWING CAMPAIGN

Dog owners in a Richmondshire village have been praised for their work to clean up the community.

Catterick Village was singled out by the district council’s dog warden when a campaign to crackdown on pet owners that fail to pick up after their pets was launched.

The council sprays paints problem areas warning people that there are on the spot fines if caught not clearing away dog mess.

But during a recent sweep of the village only five ‘piles of poo’ were found – a massive drop on the start of 2017.

“Complaints have dramatically dropped since we launched our spray painting campaign,” said Recycling and Street Scene Officer, Sally Dixon.

“And the reduction is greatest in Catterick Village where we had a real problem with owners not clearing up after their dogs. We want to say a big thankyou to everyone who has taken our messages on board – it only takes a minute to clean up but that minute makes a huge difference to the local community.”
