BIN COLLECTION DAY CHANGES START NEXT WEEK

Changes to bin collection days affecting almost every home in Richmondshire come into force next week (January 16).
The District Council is rationalising the waste and recycling collection rounds in order to make savings – and for most people that means a change to the collection day. And in cases where the changes result in a significant gap between the ‘old’ and the ‘new’ days extra collections are being slotted in - or additional bags taken - to avoid waste piling up.
Rounds are being changed so that district council waste operatives work longer days but shorter weeks – and mean the authority needs two less vehicles to undertake the service, a saving of at least £80,000 a year.
Under the new scheme bins must also be put at the kerbside by 6am – and may not be collected until 6pm.
Every household has been issued with details of how the changes affect them but information can be found on the collection finder on richmondshire.gov.uk – simply put in a postcode to find the relevant day.
