What happens when we are proposing improvements to your home?

Preparation

  • You will receive notification from Richmondshire District Council 12 months before work is to commence informing you of the type of work we propose to carry out in your home. The programme information is also available on the Council’s website.
  • You will receive an initial visit from a representative of our Partner Contractor to explain details of the proposed works and to answer any questions or concerns you may have.
  • You will be asked to make choices of styles and colours if we are replacing your kitchen.
  • Once the Partner Contractor has collected all of this information you will be given a programmed date, this date is subject to progress on site and may change. Any changes will be notified in writing by the Partner Contractor.
  • You will receive a further letter confirming the start date of the works 21 days prior to commencement and again 7 days prior to commencement.
  • You will receive a decoration allowance once the work streams to your property have been identified and confirmed.

On Site

  • Once work has started it is expected that you will move and or protect your furniture and belongings suitably to allow the works to be carried out. If you are unable to do this, assistance will be provided.
  • Each work element appropriate to your home will take approximately one week. For example if you are having a bathroom and kitchen replaced this will take 2 weeks, with further time to complete wall and floor finishes.
  • When the work is completed, it will be jointly inspected by representative of Richmondshire District Council and a representative of our Partner Contractor. At this point any outstanding defects will be recorded and made good as soon as possible.

After completion

  • You will be issued with a booklet by the Partner Contractor, which contains all help line numbers and contacts you will need in the event of a problem occurring.
  • Once the work is completed our Housing Department will be notified and any disturbances allowances will be processed and sent out to you.
  • You will also be asked to complete a satisfaction survey which will be issued and collected by our Partner Contractor.
  • Following completion any defects with the work carried out will be made good by the Partner Contractor for a period of 12 months.
