Richmondshire District Council is responsible, in liaison with the County and other Emergency Services, for ensuring that appropriate arrangements are in place to deal with any civil emergency which may arise, ranging from local flooding to a nuclear emergency. We recognise that there is a need for effective planning for civil emergencies, to ensure efficient and speedy management of the response to incidents between all the possible agencies.
Preparing for Emergencies
The North Yorkshire Local Resilience Forum (NYLRF) is a partnership of local agencies working together to prepare for, respond to and recover from potential major incidents and emergencies via the duties stated in the Civic Continguences Act 2004.

When a major incident happens
In an emergency dial 999 or 112 to contact the Police, Fire and Rescue Service or Ambulance Service.

The Environment Agency (EA) manage flooding from rivers. It issues flood warnings, operates and maintains flood defences and responds to flooding incidents. It also carries out routine maintenance works and advises planning authorities on the risk of flooding.
You can register with the EA to receive Floodline Warnings Direct by phone, text or email. This is free service which you can register for via their website here or by calling 0345 988 1188.
