I have been a District Councillor for Richmondshire since 1999, representing the Addlebrough ward - a rural area of Upper Wensleydale, and an area I have spent all my life in.
Following the May 2015 elections I was elected Leader of Richmondshire District Council, a role I am excited to take on. My aims are to ensure Richmondshire is a safe and clean place to live and work and to enable the growth of businesses and provide assistance where required.
I have been a member of Corporate Board, Scrutiny Committees and also undertaken the role of Council Chairman.
The delivery of affordable housing in the Dales - including in Askrigg and Bainbridge - has been one of my key concerns, as well as the development of Sycamore Hall extra care housing scheme in Bainbridge.
And I have been a key player in the creation of play areas at Askrigg and Bainbridge.
I am also a member of the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority and I have been Chairman of Yorebridge Sports Development Association since 2001. During that time the Association has created a new multi-use games area, gym and fitness suite which serves both local people and visitors.
I have lived in Bainbridge in Upper Wensleydale all my life and run several businesses with my two sons James and Stephen - in private hire and solid fuel as well as a tea room in my home village.
I have five grandchildren ranging in age from 3 to 14 who I love to spend time with! And in my rare moments of free time I like to read crime novels and enjoy walking.
