The Chairman of Council

The Chairman of Richmondshire District Council is the first citizen of the District and speaks on behalf of the area and its community. The Chairman is also a member of the Council elected by fellow Councillors. The Chairman's term of office is one year, with elections taking place at the Annual Meeting of the Council each spring. A Vice-Chairman is also elected to assist in civic duties and to take the Chairman's place when the Chairman is not available. The Vice-Chairman for 2016/17 is Councillor Angie Dale.

Both the Chairman and the Vice-Chairman choose a Consort to support them in their duties.

Civic Duties:- As first citizen, the Chairman acts as Chair of the regular meetings of the full Council and holds a casting vote at these meetings.
