Why Can't I Get Credit?

WHY CAN'T I GET CREDIT?
 
There may be a number of reasons for this, some of which have nothing to do with the Voters' List (Register of Electors).

 

However if you have been told by a bank or credit reference agency that you have been denied credit because they are unable to verify your details on the Voter's List.  (Please note: Credit referencing agencies do not check your details directly with the Electoral Team, they use their own database which are used for credit referencing purposes to counteract fraud).

 

Sometimes, the credit referencing agencies records are incorrect. (Difficulty can arise if there is a slight variation in the address or if your address does not contain a street name).

They should be able to supply you with a copy of your record so that you can check the details. If you have already provided confirmation of your registration to your bank or credit reference agency then any further problems will have to be taken up with them, and not with the Electoral Team.

 

(Note: The new register comes into force on 1 December each year.  Credit Referencing Agencies update their database once they have purchased the new register.)

 

Please contact the Electoral Team to confirm if you are registered. We can provide confirmation letters possibly at a charge.

 

If you are not registered as an elector then you will need to contact the Electoral Team for the necessary forms or download from here. You are not automatically included on the Voter's List if you are paying council tax and you need to complete a voter's registration form.
