If you are unable to attend your allocated Polling Station on
election date you can choose to vote by post or by proxy. In
the run up to an election there is a deadline for the applications
to be received by the Electoral Registration Officer.
Proxy Voting
A proxy is someone you appoint to attend your allocated
polling station on election day to vote on your behalf. You can
only apply for a permanent proxy voting registration if you are
unable to attend due to physical incapacity or employment reasons
and your application needs to be supported by a doctor, registered
nurse, Christian Science practitioner, or employer.
If you are away on holiday on election date you can apply for
that particular election to appoint a proxy without having your
application supported.
You need to complete a Proxy Voting Form.
This involves:
- Proxy Voting applications must be received by the Electoral
Registration Officer no later than 5pm on the date
specified for that election. (At election time see the Election
timetable for details)
- The proxy voting polling cards will be sent to your proxy
before the election.
- Changes to existing proxy arrangements must be by the Electoral
Registration Officer no later than 5pm eleven days
before an election.
The proxy voting polling cards will be sent to your proxy
before the election.
NB: A signature waiver only applies to someone who is unable
to give a consistent signature due to illness eg stroke or broke
wrist, etc. It does not apply if the person is away and
unable to sign the form.
