I represent the parishes of Leyburn and Harmby.  Leyburn is a market town in the middle of Wensleydale with a population of around 1800.  Leyburn has a Friday market, a cattle market, many shops and some light engineering as well as an Industrial Estate.  Harmby is a small linear village approximately half a mile from Leyburn with a population c320.  It is an active village with a playground and sports field.

Personal Background

I was in the Army for 19 years, rising to the rank of Major.  I served in Germany, Aden, Persian Gulf, Malaya, Brunei, Sarawak and France.  Since leaving the Army I lived at Burneston for 26 years before I moved to Constable Burton 4 years ago.  I've worked as a financial advisor for many years and I have 3 children and 3 grandchildren.

Council Background

I was elected in May 2007.  There are a large number of meetings to attend, especially Scrutiny.  The workload various considerably but can occupy at least two evenings a week together with daytime meetings.

Interests

I enjoy hunting and am a Committee member of the West of Yore Hunt.  I go shooting about a dozen days during the season and I am a keen salmon fisherman.  I'm active in local politics in addition to Richmondshire District Council, I am also the Vice-Chairman of the Hunton Moor Branch of Richmond Conservative Association.

Surgeries

I do not hold surgeries, but I do attend the Leyburn Town Council and Harmby Parish Council meetings.  I am currently involved with the Town Council and Leyburn Business Association in promoting regeneration of Leyburn.  I respond immediately if anyone telephones or has written for assistance.
