Committees
I represent the parishes of Leyburn and
Harmby. Leyburn is a market town in the middle of Wensleydale
with a population of around 1800. Leyburn has a Friday
market, a cattle market, many shops and some light engineering as
well as an Industrial Estate. Harmby is a small linear
village approximately half a mile from Leyburn with a population
c320. It is an active village with a playground and sports
field.
Personal Background
I was in the Army for 19 years, rising to the
rank of Major. I served in Germany, Aden, Persian Gulf,
Malaya, Brunei, Sarawak and France. Since leaving the Army I
lived at Burneston for 26 years before I moved to Constable Burton
4 years ago. I've worked as a financial advisor for many
years and I have 3 children and 3 grandchildren.
Council Background
I was elected in May 2007. There are a
large number of meetings to attend, especially Scrutiny. The
workload various considerably but can occupy at least two evenings
a week together with daytime meetings.
Interests
I enjoy hunting and am a Committee member of
the West of Yore Hunt. I go shooting about a dozen days
during the season and I am a keen salmon fisherman. I'm
active in local politics in addition to Richmondshire District
Council, I am also the Vice-Chairman of the Hunton Moor Branch of
Richmond Conservative Association.
Surgeries
I do not hold surgeries, but I do attend the Leyburn Town
Council and Harmby Parish Council meetings. I am currently
involved with the Town Council and Leyburn Business Association in
promoting regeneration of Leyburn. I respond immediately if
anyone telephones or has written for assistance.
