I have been a District Councillor for Richmondshire since 1999.  My ward is Addlebrough, which is in the deeply rural area of Upper Wensleydale.

Personal Background

I have lived in Bainbridge, in Upper Wensleydale all my life and I run solid fuel, private hire and tea room businesses with my two sons.

Council Background

I was Chair of the Foot and Mouth Committee during the outbreak in 2001, helping farmers and tourism businesses during a very difficult time. I learnt how much tourism relied on the farming community. It’s something that I will always remember, a devastating incident from which people in this area are still recovering.

In my years as a District Councillor I have also chaired the Community and Environment Overview and Scrutiny and Community Committee. I have also been heavily involved in delivering affordable housing in the Dales.

I am a member of Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority, which has tourism at the heart of its work.

I have also been Chairman of Yorebridge Sports Development Association since 2001; the Association has been able to create a new multi-use games area, gym and fitness suite which serves both locals and visitors.

I do not hold regular surgeries, but I am available to be contacted at any reasonable time.
