Hello and welcome to my webpages.  I represent Richmond West. The ward covers the Gallowfields Trading Estate as well as the Market Place, reaches down to The Green and across to the caravan park and is at the edge of the National Park.  Richmond West includes some of the finest parts of Richmond and is a magnet for lots of visitors and walkers.  There are issues with cuts in public transport; older people in particular, hit by the loss of the evening and Sunday services.  Young families find it hard to access affordable housing and the ward also has the highest rate of unemployment in the district.

Personal background

I have lived in Richmondshire most of my life.  I went to the Wensleydale School, Leyburn where I met my husband Martin.  I have worked for 20 years for the Ministry of Defence and currently work as a Rural Network Officer on the Rural Voice project.

Council Background

I have been a Richmondshire District Councillor since 2003.  Like most other people I am concerned about the future impact of waste and carbon emissions and I am committed to re-cycling and re-using.  I really want to see the council introduce cardboard to the re-cycling collection.   I am currently spokesperson for Equality and Diversity. This brief includes Race, Religion, Older people, Young people, Women and Disability.  It is an area that has an impact on everything the council does.

Interests

Although no longer a committee member of Richmond Live I still like to support the annual Richmond Live festival and help by selling the advertising.  I am a member of Richmond Town Council.  I also take part in the monthly litter picking/clean ups as part of Richmond Pride.  I have an allotment on Westfields which I wish I had more time for but do manage to grow lots of fruit and vegetables.  I am vegetarian so love the fact that I know my food is organically grown.  I support the concept of the Transition Town movement and think the Richmond group (TRY) are doing some great things to help us all be more aware about where our food comes from and reducing the miles it travels.

Events, Surgeries

I will hold my first surgery on 22nd June in Richmond Town Hall, 6 pm to 7 pm.  I will hold surgeries in October, January and April.  I will advertise the dates.  If you have a problems or need advice please do not hesitate to contact me.
I hope to be able to arrange another ‘Ease the Squeeze’ event in October so that people can access information about how to tackle debt, save energy and get information and advice.

Other Interests

I am currently treasurer of Independus, a user led group of people who are providing a Centre for Independent Living in Hambleton and Richmondshire.  I am also a patron of Richmond YMCA and a Deputy Lieutenant of North Yorkshire.  I am a School Governor at St Mary’s Primary.
