Local Development Framework Working Group

Hello and welcome to my webpages. My name is Matthew Wilkes representing Penhill Ward.  This is a rural ward with small villages and livestock farms.  It also includes a number of businesses and a growing trend of homeworkers.  Penhill also has a large tourist interest as it lies within the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

Personal Background

I live in Carlton in Coverdale with my wife Dinah and her two children.  I work on various farms as an agricultural contractor.

I grew up in Derbyshir in the Peak District National Park and spent many years involved in Young Farmers Clubs.

I moved to North Yorkshire in 1989 to Kidstones Farm, Bishopdale, whilst there I took an active role in the Community as Thoralby Village Hall Chairman.  I moved to Carlton in 2001 having sold the farm.  I have been a past Chairman of Carlton Parish Council.

Council Background

I have been a Parish Councillor 6 years and on the 5 May 2011 was elected to the District Council.

Other Interests

Chairman of Coverdale Youth and Community Project
Chairman of Coverdale Enhancement Group
Member of Carlton Water Supply Maintenance Committee
Supporter of Coverdale Community Pub Project
Coverdale Memorial Hall Committee
