COMMUNITY SERVICE

Community Services Structure

Community Service ranges from providing good quality permanent and temporary supported housing through to working with the Council’s partners and stakeholders to deliver key community outcomes.

Housing Management and Homeless Team

The Housing Management and Homeless Team manage the Council’s 1600 Council homes and temporary accommodation for homeless people. Services provided by the team include letting homes, preventing homelessness, helping homeless residents, collecting rent, recovering rent arrears, general estate management and tackling anti-social behaviour. The Housing Management Team also works closely with the district-wide Tenants Panel which represents the “voice” of Council tenants in responding to their needs and aspirations.

Supported Housing

The Supported Housing Team manages the Council’s sheltered housing schemes and the “Lifeline” (community alarm) service. Ten sheltered housing schemes are provided throughout the district serving 320 residents while the Lifeline service serves residents in Council and private accommodation.

The services are provided by 20 resident wardens / deputy wardens and 4 mobile wardens who are supported by a 24 hour community alarm service called Ryecare.

Partnerships

The Partnerships Team coordinates the Council’s partnership working in order to achieve key priorities for the district. Key partnerships and areas of work include the Local Strategic Partnership, the Community Safety Partnership and Community / Cultural Well-being.

The Local Strategic Partnership includes the Police, Primary Care Trust, Yorkshire Dales National Park, Catterick Garrison and the voluntary sector. Our Community Strategy, “Richmondshire 2021”, is organised around 5 themes in direct response to community needs.

The Community Safety Partnership is working to deliver our Crime Reduction Strategy and its daughter strategies, the Anti Social Behaviour Strategy and Domestic Abuse Strategy.

Community and Cultural Well-being key areas of work include the Richmondshire Leisure Trust, Arts in Richmondshire, the Primary Care Trust and museums in the district.

The Maintenance and Improvement Team provides a comprehensive maintenance and improvement service for the Council’s housing stock and other buildings.

On the maintenance side, a dedicated maintenance team carry out day to day repairs with support from a team of 18 tradespeople. The team also carries out planned maintenance such as external painting, gas servicing and adapting the homes of disabled tenants.
