Health & Wellbeing
Step by Step
Step by Step is a lifestyle service to support residents who want to improve their health by making positive lifestyle choices.
North Yorkshire County Council Public Health have commissioned Richmondshire District Council to deliver this holistic service. Its aim is to improve health conditions including respiratory conditions, heart disease, muscular disorders, obesity, risk of falls and long term conditions such as asthma, arthritis and osteoporosis, as well as supporting those who need to increase their physical activity.
Step by Step incorporates the previous GP exercise referral scheme and a new service for people who need extra support to improve their lifestyle. Anyone wishing to take part in the programme should do so by visiting their GP, Nurse, or other Health Professional for a referral.
The service is open to any Richmondshire resident who is 18 or over, who meets the eligibility criteria* and has been referred by their GP or other health care professional.
Patients who are accepted on the programme will participate in a 12 week tailor-made programme from one of the following:
- Lifestyle workshops and discounted access to swim, gym and exercise classes

Health and Well being
Richmondshire District Council has just released ‘Our guide to volunteering Information and advice’ which is available for those people who may be interested in volunteering services to support the work of the Council. It covers all of the essentials around issues such as insurance, expenses and health and safety.
People volunteer for many different reasons, some to gain work experience, to meet new people, to make a difference, gain confidence or to develop new skills, but whatever the reason, volunteering is beneficial to all those involved.
