This award winning museum presents the story of Richmondshire and
its people from the prehistoric to the present day. Exhibits
include the original TV set from the television series All
Creatures Great and Small, medieval Cruck house, transport in the
Dales, local industry, geology and toy cupboard.

Set in a converted twelfth-century church, the museum's collection
spans the 300 years of unbroken history of The Green Howards, one
of Britains's oldest and most famous regiments. Artifacts and
photographs from the Crimean War, the Boer War and the First World
War form part of the vivid presentation of The Green Howards' story
in both peace and war. There is also an audio guide and video
presentations.

The Georgian Theatre Royal and Museum

A unique example of Georgian Theatre with the majority of its
original features intact. Built in 1788 by actor/manager Samuel
Butler, it formed part of a theatre circuit which included Ripon,
Harrogate, Beverley, Kendal, Ulverston and Whitby.
The theatre was restored and reopened in 1963 and hosts a lively
programme of plays and shows.
The museum houses a unique collection of playbills together with
the oldest and largest complete set of Georgian scenery in Britain.

Last tour 4.15pm with morning tours on the hour and afternoon
tours on the half hour.

The Museum was opened in 1974 and is based in the old
Methodist school, built in 1836. It is tucked away just off
the Green down from teh Post Office shop. It is set amidst
the spectacular scenery of Swaledale and Arkengarthdale.
There are over 1,000 objects connected with living and working in
the Dales spanning over four centuries.

Advisory Service for Museums in Richmondshire
Most of the museums in Richmondshire are independent
and run by dedicated volunteers to a high standard. Professional
advice is provided by the District Council through the services of
a District Museums Officer, who can be contacted on 01748 829100.
All the museums have achieved Museum Registered status, a scheme
administered by the Council for Museums, Libraries and
Archives.

If you have an object that relates to the history of
the area and wish to donate it to a museum please contact one of
the museums above. It is always best to phone the museum to discuss
your donation prior to making a visit. The museum will make a
decision on whether to accept your offer based on existing
collections, its collecting priorities and the space it has
available. If the museum is unable to accept the item, it may be
able to put you in touch with someone who can.
Schools
Each museum provides educational activities for scholls. To
discuss your requirements please contact the museum directly.
Many museums also have school loan boxes which contain
original museum objects.
