Richmondshire has a fine variety of quirky fun shops, selling items you won’t find anywhere else and probably didn’t know you needed. Great for momentos of your visit, gifts to take back for friends, or simply a day’s browsing.

  • Wobbly Dog Kids and Wobbly Dog Gifts in Leyburn are fun and funky stores, selling a wide range of gifts, toys, sweets, stationery and Fair Trade clothes.
  • Serendipity is ‘the faculty of making happy and unexpected discoveries by accident’. It is also a shop in Leyburn where the owners have assembled a diverse collection of gifts and interior items hoping to surprise and please their customers.
  • For the most amazingly detailed dolls houses and furniture try Ingots and Bloom in Leyburn. Phone 01969 622922.
  • Antiques, pictures and collectibles including country sporting items and taxidermy can be found at Past and Presents in Leyburn. Phone 01969 624600.
  • House and Home in Leyburn sells pretty much everything you could ever need, from hardware, garden equipment and supplies, camping and caravan accessories, stationery, kitchen accessories, paints, toys, tools and gifts.
  • Wray Brothers in Leyburn is a kitchen and homewares shop well worth a visit. Phone 01969 625900.
  • Another Leyburn store which seems to grow tardis-like, once you’ve passed through the door is Campbells, an unassuming looking grocery store, which turns out to be a huge but characterful well stocked supermarket, with an upper floor of fine wines.
  • Leyburn Antiques and Collectables Centre is a 6,500 square foot emporium, home to 40 specialist antique dealers.
  • Award winning grocer’s shop, Elijah Allen Independent Grocer in Hawes is a family run business dating back to 1860. Locally sourced foods take pride of place and hams and beef are cooked on site. Phone 01969 667219.
  • Bee Lyne in Hawes stocks gifts, pictures, soft toys and fancy goods, many from local suppliers. Phone 01969 667261.
  • The owners of The Mulberry Bush in Hawes pride themselves on customer service, and everything for sale in the store – from high quality home and giftware to natural personal care, children’s and baby goods - is tried and tested at home before earning a place on the shelves. 
  • The Rock and Gem Shop in Hawes stocks a wide range of crystals, minerals, fossils and gemstone jewellery set in silver, including Celtic and Mackintosh designs, some of which is made on the premises.
  • Everything sold at the Fatsheep in Reeth is made in the Yorkshire Dales, from handmade crafts and gifts, jewellery, woodware, and pottery to soap, jams, honey, candles and textiles.
